Rules on Names
Here at Falling Era, we have a few rules on what you are and are not allowed to name a cat. Most of it is the same as most other Warriors sites, and most of the time you should be fine- you only really need to read this if you're unsure whether or not the name you've chosen is OK.
- No names from the books. You can use suffixes or prefixes from the books, but not full names. For example, 'Firebreath' or 'Firefur' would be okay, but 'Fireheart' is not. Very minor characters are okay- eg. Tumblekit, Fallowtail, Redwillow. Whether a character is minor enough is decided at the discretion of staff. If you think a staff member is being too harsh about this rule, please do PM me (Accalia) and I'll make a final decision.
- You cannot use taken names. A name is taken as soon as a bio is put up under that name (whether WIP or not). There is a list of taken names at the bottom of this thread; please reply to this thread to have your cat's name added to it, if we've missed it.
- Only use names that the cats will come across. Anything the cats might encounter or know about, even if they don't see it every day, is fine. Caramelfur, Computerheart, Gemgaze, Dragonfire, Tornadodoom, Electricstripes etc are not okay. Big cats are allowed, because the cats have their myths about LionClan, TigerClan and LeopardClan. However, only the common ones such as lion, tiger, leopard, possibly panther, cheetah, and so on- don't come out with Servalheart and Ocelotdawn.
- Be as creative as you like- rare or unusual is fine. We don't mind whether your cat's name is really simple, like Whitefur, or really pretty, like Turquoiseblossom or Illusionchaser. It's your cat and your choice.
- We won't force you either way about this particular rule, but please try and keep in mind what the mother would have named her kit. Let's say you have a totally evil DuskClan cat who defects to NeverClan and tries to commit genocide on his old Clan. He shouldn't really be called Evilrage, unless he had his name changed when he joined NeverClan. Why would his mother, who's a peace-loving DuskClan cat, name him that?
- When two characters on the site mate, the people who are going to RP the kits can have input into the kits' names, but the final decision is the mother's RPer. The father's RPer can also have input, and the mother can choose to let him name some or all of the kits, but the decision is always the mother's RPer.
- A leader should contact a cat's RPer before the cat's warrior ceremony, asking what the suffix should be. If the RPer doesn't mind or doesn't care, a leader can pick a suffix, but it shouldn't be anything too ridiculous and it's not allowed to be the same combination as a name from a book (eg. Firepaw is not allowed to be named Fireheart, Bramblepaw is not allowed to be named Brambleclaw, Whitepaw is not allowed to be named Whitestorm, and so on).
- Your name should bear some relation, in some way, to your cat. A cat with grey fur and blue eyes should not be named Redfur. A big, strong, muscled tom should not be named Tinystep. Obvious stuff like that. It's okay if it only vaguely relates to your cat, but if the name points to something that your cat just plain isn't, then it's not okay. There are exceptions; a mother might name her kit Bravekit in the hope that he'd grow up to have courage, and then he turns out a complete coward. That's just bad luck- so long as all of this is well thought out, we're not going to tell you to change it.

Rogues, Loners, and Kittypets
Obviously, we're a lot more open with names for non-Clan cats. Kittypets are named by their Twolegs, so anything that Twolegs know about, a kittypet can be named. One of my parents' friends named their cats Chips and McDonald. If those two cats wandered into our site, then they'd be called Chips and McDonald and while the Clan cats would find it very strange, it'd still be realistic. And Loners and Rogues are often a lot more free with their names, and a rogue or loner mother might think about a kittypet she'd met and name her kit after them. So we can have kittypets, loners and rogues named Hercules, Caramel, Dragon, Computer, whatever you want. Names like Hate or Rage or Demon are also a lot more accepted in rogues- while most loving Clan mothers will not name their darling kit Hatekit, a rogue might because some/most rogue mothers want their kits to grow up feared and respected, so might give on a name like Hate or Rage or Demon or whatever you want.
Clan-Specific Naming Tendencies
Just like in the books, each Clan of Falling Era has a different tendency for naming their kits. We won't force you to name a kit after these styles, but these are for guidelines and inspirations, as well as helping if you want your cat to fit in well with its Clan.
ForeverClan
ForeverClan are generally straightforward, logical cats, and this applies to their naming. Their kits are generally named after something about the cat; Blackfur for black fur, Smallfire for a small ginger cat, Silvermist for a silver-pelted cat, and so on. They rarely have long or 'pretty' names, considering them fanciful; it's generally physical attributes. Occasionally they'll have names which just relate to the physical attributes, rather than directly describing them; a striped kit could be named Stripekit, but it could also be named Tigerkit or, if the stripes were vertical, Grasskit or Reedkit. Coloursharing names are also common; a cat with grey fur could be called Greyfur, but Stonefur or Rockfur or Cloudfur are all also possible.
NeverClan
NeverClan are NeverClan. They like names which will please the Higher Cats, so often go for prefixes like Dark, Night, Fierce, Shade, Proud, and so on. Having the same prefix or suffix as a known Higher Cat is common because it implies aspiring to be like, or serve, that cat; so if a mother had two kits, naming them Hawk-kit and Frostkit would be entirely normal, as would naming one Tigerkit and the other Clawkit. NeverClan also like names that imply power or strength or fighting skill; prefixes like adder, venom, brave, strong, and so on are common, and good names for a NeverClan cat would be things like Swiftstrike, Fiercefire, Blackclaw, Darksoul, and so on.
DawnClan
DawnClan like to name their kits after animals, especially birds; Wrenstar herself is a prime example. They usually go for an animal with the attributes they hope for in their kits, eg. a mother who wants her kit to grow up swift might name him/her Kestrelkit or Falconkit. They are also commonly named after animals that share their attributes- Crowkit for a black pelt, Lionkit for a big golden kit, or Dovekit for a graceful white kit. Apart from birds, DawnClan cats are often named 'pretty' names, such as Dreamdancer, Mythchaser, Hopeflower, Blossomfall, and so on.
DuskClan
[/center]Because they care so much about medicine, they will often name their cats after herbs. However, they also like names of anything natural - like Fogkit, Smokekit, Leafkit, or something. There are a lot of simple names in the clan (Whitefur, Goldfoot, etc.) but there are some pretty fancy ones, too. DuskClan also like tree or plant names- such as Oakkit, Birchkit, Fernkit, Beechkit, Cherrykit, Mintkit, Ashkit, Elmkit, Rownkit, and so on. This especially counts when the plant is a herb, as aforementioned.
Taken Names
Here is a list of taken names. When a cat's bio is created, we add their name to the list; if we forget, please do reply here and remind us (giving the cat's name and a link to their bio). If a cat was deleted in an activity check, we will try and remove the names from the list, but if we miss one, please tell us so we can remove it. If your cat gets a name change (eg. Wrenkit >> Wrenpaw >> Wrenswoop >> Wrenstar) then please reply here and tell us so we can update the list.
