We have tried to keep this as short and sweet as possible, as we know how annoying reading over-extensive rules can be. However, we want to be sure that we don't miss anything. If you're an experienced roleplayer, do feel free to skim over it, as you'll have heard most of it before; you can always return and read in detail if/when problems come up. If you are new to Roleplaying, we do ask that you read it all.

Everybody deserves respect, members, staff, guests, everybody. You should all be mature enough to have a good time without insulting, flaming, or hurting one another. Please report anybody who is being disrespectful or insulting to another member. This includes staff; abusive staff members should be reported at once to another staff member.

No racism. No sexism. No homophobia. No ableism. No religious discrimination.
If you need us to take something into account for you because of a disability or religion, please do. For instance, we are willing to create a monochrome version of the site for you if you are colourblind, or add more gender options if you wish. Just PM me.

We're a very liberal site as regards minimodding. Staff do not always have time to sort out every little quarrel, and if you're capable of politely reminding a user not to powerplay, or to be nice, then please do.
For more serious issues, such as harassment or bullying, we expect you to always report it to a staff member.
If you think you're likely to only cause more trouble, or if you're unsure in any way as to the rules, then report the issue to staff and don't try and sort it out yourself.
That said, if an experienced member has to tap a newbie on the shoulder once in a while and remind them not to powerplay, then by all means do so- it lessens the workload of staff, and often fellow members can be less intimidating than staff.

God-moding, powerplaying, metagaming, timesprinting.
- Metagaming is when your characters know things they shouldn't, such as a young kit knowing where each Clan's camp is, or a cat knowing that another cat loves the medicine cat even when that cat has kept it secret.
- Powerplaying is controlling another character without it's owner's permission. An example is, if you play Fireflame and another user plays Darknose, you cannot write 'Darknose ran away' and the other user cannot write 'Fireflame blinked'.
- Godmoding is where your character does something which is impossible or far too difficult for them to do with the tools/time frame they had. For instance, your small DuskClan kit single-handedly taking on five NeverClan warriors, your character running through a fire completely unharmed to save their leader, or having your cat find a bazooka lying around and work out how to fire it.
- If another user is going away, on holiday or grounded, and give you permission to play their character, it is not powerplaying.
- It is not powerplaying to say that something happened as a reasonable consequence of your own character's actions. For instance, if your character Fireflame pushes Darknose, it is not powerplaying to say that Darknose falls over, especially if Fireflame is a big ForeverClan warrior and Darknose is a weedy young medicine cat.
- It is not metagaming if your character could have reasonably found out. So, if a cat has kept their love for the medicine cat secret, another cat is not allowed to know about it; but if they are constantly making moony eyes and using any excuse to do errands for the medicine cat, another cat is allowed to guess. And if a cat has never been told where the DawnClan camp is and never visited, but is a very senior ForeverClan warrior, it is acceptable for them to have a vague idea of where to go if they're ever sent on a visit.
- It is not powerplaying to say that another character is injured when you attack them. Eg; 'Fireflame bit Darknose's ear. Darknose's ear started bleeding'. In this case, you are NOT powerplaying Darknose's ear, you are just talking about a reasonable assumption that when Fireflame scratches Darknose, his ear is going to start bleeding.
- You may not kill, seriously injure, permanently disfigure, or knock out another person's character, without either asking permission OOC, or posting in two posts.
The first post must be an 'aiming' post, eg. 'Shadefire aimed his paw at Darknose's head in an attempt to knock him out with the blow'. If Darknose responds, but makes no mention of blocking/dodging the blow, you may post again, eg. 'Shadefire's paw connected with Darknose's head and knocked him out'. However, if Darknose blocks/dodges the blow, you must downgrade it to something less serious (eg. 'Shadefire's paw missed Darknose's head as he dodged, instead bruising his shoulder') or make it miss.

We have liquid time; you can be in as many threads as you like at any one time.
Site time is double our time, so if a week has gone by for us, 2 weeks have gone by for your characters.
A thread is judged to take place based on when it started and how long it took IC; so if a thread was started on Friday, set at sunhigh, and took 3 days to RP but only lasted 5mins IC, then next Monday IC, it should be considered an event that happened six days ago and took 5mins.
You can be in as many threads as you like but please keep track of timelines and what happened first/second/last. If your cat is injured in one thread, it doesn't have to become spontaneously injured in threads it is already in (taking place later), but DOES have to stay injured in any other threads you start/join, until enough time has elapsed for him/her to have healed.
If your cat dies in a thread, you have three posts to withdraw him/her from other threads he/she is in (give them a reason to not be there, eg. walking away, going off on patrol, stalking off in a huff)

Characters must have as many flaws as they have strengths and cannot be 'perfect'.
Their flaws must equal out their strengths; for example, 'clever, brave and strong' as strengths and 'cannot swim, bad singer, a little nervous in front of crowds' is unacceptable, even though it's 3 strengths and 3 weaknesses, because cleverness is worth more than swimming, courage is worth more than singing, and strength is worth more than speaking in front of crowds.

Cats age according to IC time. It is your responsibility to keep track of the age of your cat and PM your Clan leader when a kit turns 6 moons old. Cats who reach the IC age of 10 or above should display signs of old age and cats should not live above 12 (please have them die of old age). Kittypets should not live past the age of 20 and will be considered old at 15 years or above. Loners should not survive past 10, as they do not have the support of a Clan.

Similar to the metagaming rule; a cat cannot be good at things without training. If your character is a medicine cat apprentice, or in DuskClan, or never seen a single battle, they cannot be an amazing fighter. If they are a newborn kit, they cannot be a stunningly good hunter. And so on. It is recommended that a mentor and apprentice do IC threads together where the mentor teaches.
If your character has skills or strengths which are very unusual for their Clan, such as a good fighter in DuskClan or an excellent swimmer in ForeverClan, then you must explain in the profile how they acquired those strengths. Perhaps they were a loner before they joined the Clan, or were taught those skills by Higher Cats.

You also cannot suffix a cat with a leader suffix; -star is not allowed, but neither is -sky (what ForeverClan use now that the stars are all gone), -shadow (what NeverClan use, and DawnClan and the Tribe also use since the Higher Cats force them to), or -servant (what DuskClan use, as a sign of humility and because a leader serves their Clan). Timekeepers should not use the epithet 'the Far-seeing', as that is a Teller's epithet.

Backwriting a character is giving it a history which was never RPed. For instance, if 3 months ago ForeverClan RPed a war with NeverClan and you created a brand new character yesterday, that character is allowed to have been injured in the war or hate NeverClan because of it, even though they never actually took part.
However, don't go insane, don't claim that they were the character who won the war and they were granted uncountable honours from their Clan leader because of it.

We aren't going to lay down a list of punishments for different offences. Every situation is different. What kind of punishment we hand out will depend on many things: whether this is usual behaviour for you or whether you are usually polite and respectful; which rule you've broken; whether you are willing to apologise; and so on. Do know that although we try to be lenient - everybody makes mistakes - repeat offenders will be banned.

If somebody breaks the rules, please do report them. Use the report button, or if the incident occurred in the cbox, please screenshot it and PM a screenshot to a staff member (preferably me).

Have fun RPing and enjoy yourself!
